The Atonement Debate

Well, debate thunders on. There have been lots of comments from lots of people all over the internet, so I’m only going to point to a couple that I consider notable.

Firstly, N. T. Wright has responded to approximately everyone in the world. At points he sounds good, at points he doesn’t. Before I’ve said “well, he’s rubbish on Paul, but he’s ok on other things.’ As long as those other things don’t include justification or the atonement, seemingly. I’m less convinced by him by the day. He attacks Pierced For Our Transgressions in that article, and the authors of that book have responded here. (Available in a more readable format here). I think I’m going to side with them.

Secondly, and on a much happier note, I just watched the new Together For The Gospel Video. Those men are warm-hearted ministers of the Gospel and I bear much love for them. They’re also all joyfully self-deprecating and full of good humour. Exactly what a true evangelical should be. If you aren’t familiar with T4G, check out this video, then either check out the audio or the new book (or both, I recommend both) to hear some great men speak about the glory of Christ. I especially recommend John Piper’s exposition on why expository preaching is more glorifying to God.
