Repentance through Kingdom eyes

Someone else’s thoughts on repentance.

Jesus does point out the significance of the kingdom in saying that it demands repentance and faith. To repent is to turn away from our desire to be independant of God, which is, in effect, allegiance to Satan’s kingdom. Repentance is to turn to God in submission to his kingly rule. Such submission involves faith as confident reliance on the Word of the King himself. The Word speaks a message of God’s love for rebellious sinners, which is shown in undeserved acts of redemption. God actually moves to restore to friendship with himself those who oppose and hate him.

- Graeme Goldsworthy, According To Plan, 73

Repentance is a change of kingdom! Once you’re in Christ, you’re a slave to righteousness and a vassal of a new kingdom, under new authority, exercising new kingdom power and walking alongside a new and true King.
