The Church Triumphant

Lig Duncan on why things like Together For The Gospel exist, and what their vision for the conference was. By God’s grace they are trying to achieve:
We want to see a strong coalition of Bible-saturated, truth-driven, God-entranced, prayer-soaked, aggressively evangelistic, Christ-treasuring, Christ-exalting, Spirit-filled, sovereign grace-loving, missions-advancing, hell-robbing, strong-thinking, real-need-exposing, soul-winning, mind-engaging, vagueness-rejecting, wartime-life-style-pursuing, risk-taking, justice-advancing, […]

"Let us emblazon scripture upon our minds"

Just wanted to say, Christian Hedonism is amazing.
I just adore the profound Biblical truths, that I can increasingly see strewn throughout the Bible and throughout Church history.
Augustine? Christian Hedonist. Definately.
That’s all we have time for now, but we’ll return soonish with a description of the fun I’ve been getting up to.

Quote time!

Here’s the Christian vision: “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). God is not confined to a ghetto. It’s all His property — everything, material, spiritual, conceptual. There is no atom in all the universe that is not His possession, not His by right, […]

Perhaps you should mention these kind of things

Why did no one point out my enormous self-contradiction a few posts ago?
I said that there weren’t secondary issues, as though some of the Word was less important, but then adocated ecumenicalism, and then stated that while we unite there are incontrovertibles that might make it hard to unite on some things. Essentially - salvation […]

Mr Sprinkle’s easter highlight was spending time with John Piper.

He’s so cool.

Truth, grace, Spirit, power

Small reflection today on something which has caused confusion in the past.
Ok, I’m sure that if you’re reading this you’re probably aware of my more than slight charismatic doctrinal leanings. You’re probably aware that I believe in something that I might refer to as “Baptism in the Spirit.” We may even have a conversation about […]

Resurrection matters

Interesting discussion on some NT Wright’s of more ‘unfortunate’ comments over at Pyromaniacs. Certainly worth reading, and running through the (admittedly very long) comments section below. (Edit: Good commentary on other perspectives on this.)
See, that was fairly charitable! Unfortunate wasn’t the first word I would’ve used to describe his comments, that’s for sure. But […]

Christ is Risen!

Happy Easter!
Happy “resurrection sealing the truth of doubley imputed freedom and righteousness achieved in the propitiatory substitutionary death of the Lord of Glory” day. There was a theologically filled saying of fun! Double imputation (our sin to Christ, his righteousness to us) is a rather exciting doctrine. Be excited about it!
Grace abounds to justified sinners […]

Tulips and fireblossom

I was asked the other day how the doctrines of grace (often called ‘Calvinism’) and election affect and interact with evangelism. So, here goes!
The specific question was more on the so-called Limited Atonement, and as to how this affects evangelism. Can one indeed even say “Jesus died for you” in light of this doctrine?
The answer’s […]

Grace like a river

Happy Maundy Thursday!
It has been pointed out to me as regards yesterdays wonderings that I may be missing the Corinthian Context (Take the text out of context and all you’ve got is a con! Ahem.) which sounds believable, but will bear checking. Also, creation ordinances were pointed out to me: Man is not meant to […]
